Conservation Commission Minutes of August 13, 2008

Meeting called to order by Chairman Don Stover at 8:10 am

Members present: Don Stover, John Crouch, John Laskey, Rich Haslip, Fred Huntress, Sue Ellis, Dana Lee, and Selectmen Joe Cimino.
Visitors: Wendy Sanborn and Scott Segal.
Motion to approve minutes of 6-11-08 by Rich, second by John L, vote unanimous.
Motion to approve minutes of 7-9-08 by Fred, second by Rich, vote unanimous.
Joe questioned how the Economic Dev. Committee could give $500 to the Cons. Com. without the selectmen voting on it. Dana noted it.

It was decided that the commission needed a treasurer. Don nominated Rich, second by Fred. Vote unanimous.
Cons. Com. was represented at Tripp Lake annual meeting, and the association donated $250 to the commission.
Rich thanked John L. for his 25 years of service to Tripp Lake
And thanked John C. for his 9 years to Range Pond
Rich made a motion of commendation to the 2 of them, seconded by Don, vote unanimous.
Sue said Dana attended the Thompson Lake annual meeting and discussed the Poland reevaluation. He briefly said Poland had a new conservation commission.
Sue mentioned that Eurasian milfoil had been found in Salmon Lake AKA Ellis Lake (no relation) in Kennebec County but they think they had removed it all.
Don said we were now members of MEACC
Discussion about the Conservation Com. Forum to be held Thursday October 30, 2008.
Decided to have it upstairs in the Town Hall. Begin at 7pm and end at 8:30pm allowing font>
Since we want to present the Bragdon Hill project it was agreed that we should invite Eula Hansen to the next meeting to discuss it.
Jack Quinn had told a member that his land abuts Town Land and he might be interested in getting involved.
Dana said he would ask the assessor to delineate values of conserved areas vs. commercial.
The title of the forum will be “Land for Poland’s Future” suggested by Sue and received unanimous approval.
Advertising was discussed and it was suggested that each member make a list of people to be called to invite to the forum, and bring the list to next meeting.
It was agreed that Dana would keep track of a list of anyone who signs up to be an associate member.
Scott Segal from the Recreation Dept. was present and said he would like to see a trails committee. Don and Rich said they would be interested.
Community Day date is October 11. Cons Com needs to get an application and request location (preferably one that is out of the potential wind)
John C. requested we change the meeting days due to his work conflicts.
The meetings will now be on the second Tuesday of the month from 8-10 am.
Following dates: Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11, Dec. 9.
John L. motion to adjourn. Don seconded. Adjourned 10:15 am.
